A late-night ride on the Newark Light Rail turned violent early Wednesday morning when a man stabbed several passengers, according to New Jersey Transit Police.
The incident occurred just before 12:30 a.m. between the Norfolk Street and Orange Street stations. Authorities say the suspect, who has not yet been publicly identified, attacked multiple passengers with a knife on board the train.
The man was apprehended at Orange Street Station shortly after the assault and is now in custody. Police confirmed that he and three adult victims were transported to a local hospital. Fortunately, none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
Officials have not released a motive, and the investigation into what led to the attack is ongoing.
New Jersey Transit Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward as they piece together the events leading up to the stabbing.
Train service in the area was briefly delayed but has since resumed.
